In 2018, Kotton Fields Preschool was founded with a dream to create a place where young minds could grow and thrive. Concerned about the growing impact of digital screens, the founders envisioned a hands-on, screen-free approach to learning. Our Founder-Principal, Ms. Madhuri Krishna Murthy drew inspiration from visits to a Waldorf School in Stuttgart Germany, the Reggio Emilia Exhibition Centre in Italy, and De Hortus (one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world) in the Netherlands. The botanical garden, in particular, taught us the beauty of nature, the importance of avoiding plastic, and the value of teaching children to care for the environment from an early age.
This vision took shape as a preschool deeply rooted in connecting children with nature, helping them explore healthy habits, and experiencing the joy of planting and nurturing their own gardens. We wanted children to not just learn about nature but to feel a part of it, developing a lifelong respect for the environment.
This is where Kreedo came into the picture. When I visited their office in JP Nagar, I was captivated by the beautifully crafted Montessori materials on display. Each piece was thoughtfully designed, aligning perfectly with our vision of hands-on, practical learning. I knew immediately that these materials and this curriculum were exactly what Kotton Fields needed.
What made Kreedo even more remarkable was the flexibility of their Montessori framework. It provided a solid, scientific foundation that I could build upon and adapt to create a unique learning experience tailored to our vision. Together, we brought this dream to life—a preschool where children grow, explore, and flourish in harmony with nature.
In November 2019, our team completed Nursery Teacher Training (NTT), which prepared us for our first batch of students who successfully completed their inaugural year in March 2020. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, we adapted by introducing homeschooling and innovative “Practivity Kits” in 2021. When schools reopened in November 2021, we welcomed students back into our nurturing environment.
The academic year 2022-2023 was marked by significant milestones, including the launch of a small library by the children, showcasing their growing love for literacy. We celebrated their achievements during our flagship Annual Day event, highlighting the dedication of our two teachers. In the following year, we introduced a unique art initiative to encourage creativity and self-expression.
At Kotton Fields Preschool, we prioritize hygiene and teach essential table manners to instil good habits from an early age. When introducing writing and reading skills, we utilize slate practice with wet chalk, which prevents dust allergies while providing a tactile experience that enhances grip. This method allows children to practice larger strokes that make it easier for them to write smaller ones in their books. The slow and deliberate way of writing with chalk helps solidify their memory of letters and words.
We believe in providing a strong foundation for early childhood learning that is crucial for overall child development. Our curriculum is designed to nurture cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth, ensuring that children are well-prepared for future academic challenges. By fostering essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration from an early age, we empower children to become confident learners who are ready to explore the world around them.
Children also enjoy engaging rhyme sessions and story time, which are beneficial for their academic development. Our nurturing environment fosters a love for learning under the guidance of our well-trained teachers. Parents have reported remarkable improvements in their children’s behaviour since joining Kotton Fields Preschool. Many children have developed positive eating habits, eagerly consuming homemade meals and fruits, reflecting a newfound respect for food. The nurturing environment fostered by our mentors has encouraged independence; children are excitedly preparing for school on their own and actively engaging in homework while enjoying reading from the school library.
Our supportive teachers adapt to each child’s unique needs, promoting personalized growth and instilling a love for learning. This dedication has led to immense parental satisfaction with the preschool experience. At Kotton Fields Preschool, we continue to grow as a nurturing environment for young learners, reflecting resilience, adaptability, and a deep commitment to the holistic development of every child.
Looking ahead, we are excited to expand our preschool to accommodate more young learners, supported by a dedicated team of teachers and helpers. Our mission remains focused on fostering curiosity, creativity, and a love for lifelong learning.
